JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (September 4, 2009) – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team fell to the Carson-Newman Eagles in Jefferson City, Tenn., tonight. The Royals put up a fight in the 2-1 overtime loss against the recently 17th ranked Eagles.
The Eagles came out ready to play shooting the ball every chance they got. They stayed persistent taking the first 12 shots of the game before Andrea Saevik found the back of the net at the 33rd minute of the first half. Queens Goalie Kristen Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run )stayed strong defending the goal for the Royals. She would finish the contest with a game high 17 saves.
The second half continued much like the first but Kornacki didn't let anything get past her as the Eagles offense continued their attack. The Royals never gave up and it paid off when Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside)shot the ball from the 18 meter scoring at the 40th minute of the second half. K. Wright's sister Amanda Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside )took the final shot of regulation play to get the win for the Royals but it went wide.
Trenna Howell scored the game winning goal for the Eagles in overtime dribbling to the net and sliding it past Kornacki.
K. Wright led the Royals in shots with two. A. Wright and Katherine Johnson (Chapel Hill, N.C., Northwood ) each had one. The Eagles took 39 total shots.
The Royals are back in action Sunday, September 6,2009 against Mars Hill College.
