Women’s Soccer Pummels Anderson; Wins 6-0

Queens out shoots Trojans 13-1

Senior Whitney Hensen (Knoxville, Tenn., Farragut ) scored the game-winning goal in the 6-0 pummeling of the Anderson University Trojans Saturday afternoon at the Queens University of Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The win extends the Royals winning streak to three and places Queens at the top of Conference Carolinas, tied with Pfeiffer,  with a 3-0 record (3-4-1 overall). Anderson drops to 0-3 in league play and 1-4 overall.

The six goals scored in Saturday's game doubles the amount of conference goals Queens has scored in the first two conference games this season.

Queens tallied two goals in the first half. Hensen's came in the 11th minute of play unassisted. Sophomore Sami Striano (Clearwater, Fla., Countryside ) notched her first goal of the season, and first of two in the game, off of an assist from freshman Kathryn Sylvester (Raleigh, N.C., Apex ).

Sylvester combined with freshman Katherine Carr (Upper Marlboro, Md. , St. Mary's ) three and a half minutes into the second stanza to open a three goal lead on the visitors. Sylvester crossed a ball in front of Trojan keeper Ashley Hollander and Carr finished with her head.

Carr impacted the next Royals goal as she assisted Striano for the fourth goal of the game in the 52nd minute. Carr netted her second goal of the game off of an assist from junior Katherine Johnson (Chapel Hill, N.C., Northwood ) ten minutes after the fourth goal.

Sophomore Rose Balderson (Trappe, Md., Saints Peter and Paul ) finished the day's scoring with a little over six minutes left in the game. Senior Kari Byzewski (Virginia Beach, Va., Salem )assisted Balderson. Byzewski has earned at least one point in the last three games.

The Royals allowed just one shot in the game. Trojan Whitney Branch was able to take the shot. Queens took 13 shots with four different players each tallying two and five players taking one.

Queens goalie Kristen Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run ) earned her first shutout of the season for Queens. Hollander played all 90 minutes for Anderson and allowed six goals past.

The Royals have a full week off from competition. They travel to Limestone College on Saturday, Sept. 27 for a 2pm kick. Anderson faces non-conference opponent Wingate on Sept. 24 in Wingate, N.C.
