CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services
Tim Burke has announced his retirement from collegiate athletics after almost 10 years of service with the Royals. Burke joined the Royals staff in the 2007-2008 season.
Â
"Tim has been instrumental and broad-based in helping to lead and enhance our department the past 9 ½ years," said Queens Director of Athletics
Cherie Swarthout. "He has significantly impacted the lives of Queens' student-athletes and helped our coaching staff be successful daily. Tim has also held us to the highest standard of compliance. We look forward to building on the strong foundation that he has created and we wish him and his family the very best as they begin this new chapter in their lives."
Â
Burke was the first full-time compliance director in history to join the Royals staff as the position had been shared by multiple coaches during the years prior. He is directly responsible for building the compliance department from the ground up, implementing many practices within the department that did not exist before his arrival. His presence allowed the department to grow in ways unimaginable as he and his staff worked tirelessly to ensure that the university's teams and athletes complied with NCAA rules across the board. In his time with the Royals, he has seen the department grow from 18 sports to the 29 varsity sports it now bolsters.
Â
Prior to joining the Royals, Burke spent time with the Charlotte Sting and then Bobcats as their manager of basketball operations and facilities. He was the compliance assistant at George Washington University before joining the Sting and Bobcats.
Â
"I am proud of the work I have accomplished in my time spent at Queens," Burke commented. "Starting the compliance department and seeing the teams grow and succeed at the highest level has given me a very rewarding experience. Though I will no longer be working here, I will always be a Royal and continue to support the university and the department of athletics."
