Stevens and Kusch Named Intercon Student Athletes of the Month

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swim programs tallied the Intercon Student-Athlete of the Month award for January as McKenzie Stevens secured the honor on the women's side and Marius Kusch on the men's side.
 
Stevens started the month finding three individual first place swims against Lenoir-Rhyne in Limestone. She claimed the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.91), 100 yard freestyle (53.25), and the 100 yard butterfly (57.98) in the meet. With her teammates in the in the 200 yard medley relay, Stevens added one more first place swim in the meet with a time of 1:48.16.
 
In the team's meet at the University of South Carolina, Stevens led the pool in the 200 yard freestyle reaching with a 1:51.78. She touched in fifth during the 1000 yard freestyle (10:26.38) for the top division II time, fourth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:00.1), eighth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:07.91).
 
She also claimed first place with the 400 yard freestyle relay team with a time of 3:23.30, sixth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.00 and eighth in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:55.83.
 
Kusch started the month with first place swims in the team's meet against Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone. He topped the pool in the 200 yard freestyle (1:39.60), 200 yard individual medley (1:54.30), 200 yard freestyle (1:39.60), and 100 yard freestyle (46.46). He also saw a top performance come from the men's 400 yard freestyle relay team. The Royals claimed a time of 3:08.47 in the event.
 
In the USC meet, Kusch swam for first in the 100 yard butterfly (48.50) and first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:38.63) while also claiming second in the 200 yard individual medley (1:51.22), fifth in the 100 yard freestyle (45.46),
 
With his relay teammates, he put together first place swims in the 200 yard freestyle (1:21.77) the 200 medley relay (1:28.76) and the 400 yard freestyle relay (2:59.41). He also claimed second with the 400 yard medley relay (3:15.43).
 
Both Stevens and Kusch will focus their attention on the NCAA Division II Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 8th.
