PONTE VEDRE, FLA. – Natalie Mirra (Boxford, Mass., Heritage Academy) is tied in 27th place after the first round of the 2010 Queens Invitational being held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla. Queens University of Charlotte has two teams represented in play, Queens A who finished the day 10th and Queens B who finished tied in 11th. Conference Carolinas rival Belmont Abbey leads the field after shooting a 316. One stroke behind the Crusaders is the Argos of the University of West Florida. Ashland University wrapped up the top three with a score of 324.
Jennifer Gartin of West Florida sits atop the field of 66 individual golfers with a three-over-par score of 75. Gartin holds a one stroke lead over Belmont Abbey's Michelle Low and Mount Olive's Valentina Urquiola who are tied in second place. Erica Ray of Carson-Newman College is in the third spot after shooting a 77.
Six top 25 teams are competing in the 2010 Queens Invitational; Barry (6), Belmont Abbey (7), Lynn (14), Ashland (16), Carson-Newman (18), and West Florida (24).
Mirra of Queens B leads all of the Royals after shooting an 84 in round one. Julia Wennerlund (Bjarred, Sweden, Polhemskolan) and Katie Murphy (Huntersville, N.C., North Mecklenburg)of Queens A are one stroke behind Mirra tied in the tenth spot. Camilla Mallberg (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium) (Queens A) and Laura Belanger (Waxhaw, N.C., Parkwood) (Queens B) are tied in 11th with scores of 86.
The second round of play is set for Tuesday morning with an 8:30am shotgun start.
