CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Michael Crouch (Yucca Valley, Calif., Yucca Valley)of the men's cross country team has been named the male InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts during the month of November.
Crouch appears to be making a huge mark in Queens' cross country history after this season. The senior runner won his first Conference Carolinas individual title on November 5th leading his team to a repeat performance of the previous season. The Royals finished first as a team with their second straight perfect team score of 15 points in the conference championships. Crouch broke the McAlpine Creek Course 8k record, and the Conference Carolinas Championship 8k record with his mark of 23:55.4. His efforts earned him the Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Year Award in addition to a spot on the All-Conference First Team.
After two weeks, the Royals returned to McAlpine Creek to host the NCAA Southeast Region Championships. The Royals didn't let their fans down winning their fourth consecutive NCAA Southeast Region Title. Crouch finished as the runner-up with an impressive 10,000-meter time of 29:47.8 helping Queens earn their fourth bid to the NCAA National Championships. His performance helped his team to a number seven national ranking and placed him on the NCAA Southeast All-Region Team.
In the NCAA National Championships Crouch was named an All-American after winning the first NCAA National Cross Country individual title in Queens' history.
"It has been great to see Michael close out his senior year in this fashion,” said Head Coach Scott Simmons. “His conference win at home was the icing on the cake for our men's repeat title."
Crouch is still hard at work training for what's to come next. An interview will be done once there is down time.
